I can't login to Ubuntu 18.04 from my Macbook (macos). Am I missing something?

My desktop is running Ubuntu 18.04, on which I can easily access files on my Macbook on a local network, but I can't seem to login from my Macbook. Works fine if I share things from Ubuntu to a Guest account, but when I try to log in as a user, it says my username and/or password are incorrect. Is there a setting I'm missing?

  • Can we get more details? Are you dual booting or running in a VM? Do you have caps lock on? Are your keys mapped correctly?

  • My desktop PC is dual booted (Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04), my Macbook is not. CAPS lock is fine (not ON). Never had an issue before when signing into other macOS products. To clarify, I am trying to access files on my Ubuntu PC from my Macbook through the Finder by clicking "Connect as..." and entering my username and password for the Ubuntu user, which then shakes indicating the name or password was wrong. Could this be a macOS issue and I'm simply SOL?

  • Do you want to access the files via SMB, NFS, or AFP?

  • I'm not overly familiar with the specifics of each, but whatever makes it work, I'm not picky at this time.
