measuring network speeds with concurrent connections

0

In measuring network speed, do I need to consider all connections that are transferring data at the time I run the measuring process? If so, what ss command would list connections that are actually transferring data?

I have a cron measuring network speed using speedtest-cli. I'm getting wildly varying results. I have this cron running on three different Ubuntu hosts (at different times) on my LAN and they all have these inconsistent results.

Is this expected? If not, what could be the cause of this fluctuation.
