Getting an error about the drive being in an invalid state and that it needs to be mounted Read Only - RO. I want to be able to open up a terminal session within Parted Magic and execute those commands and mount the drive Read Only.

If you don't dual boot with Windows, how were you using this NTFS partition? Is this an external drive that you've moved to a Windows system recently... to share files... or whatever. If it is external, reconnect it to a Windows system and run chkdsk to fix this problem.

  • Thanks - so actually I am using windows (yes) and then I boot into parted magic by an USB. I'm trying to get files out of this drive (the drive in the computer) and then put the files on a USB then wipe the whole drive clean, all while being on parted magic in Linux. I will try what you have stated.

  • You need to when booted into linux do a full shutdown and NOT Windows' fast boot shutdown - that should help clean up the disk and not leave metadata lying about
