How would one describe the smell of a car? [on hold]

-1

I'm doing a descriptive piece but have hit a roadblock with the way to describe a 'car smell'- not necessarily new (a slightly used Ferrari classic for context). So far I've got: "...and that addicting smell the car invoked- pure ecstasy.". It has no depth, quite short and not very descriptive/useful. Does anyone have any suggestions, e.g. words or phrases to help better this description and give the reader a better understanding? Thank you.

  • It depends whose car you mean. A farmer's car might smell like a pig sty! Some people might keep theirs smelling like a perfumerie.

  • Good point, I'll take that into consideration. Thank you for your point.

The smell of a new car is called, well, the new-car smell. The smell of any other car is called, well, whatever that smell is. You have to tell us what smell you have in mind. At which point you won't have to ask how to describe it because you will have described it.

  • I'll not that there's generally going to be some smell of plastic or leather (though not as strong as in a new car), some odor of petroleum products and exhaust, and maybe a dash of rubber. And then there's that hula dancer attached to the heater vent.
