Stuck on boot screen after xbacklight purged

0

I often dual boot between Ubuntu 18.04 and Windows 10. This last time when I booted back onto Ubuntu I got stuck at the boot screen. This seems to be an nvidia issue, for I am only able to get past this when I disable the nvidia graphics driver.

After checking my update history log, I remembered that the last time I was using Ubuntu I had installed xbacklight 1.2.1, only to purge it after being unable to get it to work. This is the only reason I can imagine that would cause this issue. Does xbacklight changed my configuration in some way that wouldn't be undone by a purge, or am I looking for the solution in the wrong place?
