Suddenly having left click issues. Doesn't work on mouse or touchpad

0

Edit - I rebooted with my mouse plugged in and it seemed to be working fine. I then tested the left click physical button on the laptop touch pad and it reverts back to how it was before and it seems like left click is either not working or being held down continually.

I am very ignorant of the way Linux works, this isn't my laptop. First the touchpad didn't work at all, but I was able to sort the movement aspect by one of the many attempts I've made to solve the problem. I have done sudo apt-get upgrade, I've done various commands to update synaptics, also sudo add-qpt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa and upgrading after that. I also tried editing the grub file to add is0842reset or something like that as instructed in a forum thread with the same issue.

After doing the command above including repository and rebooting it seemed like it has fixed it and I was very happy, but after closing the laptop with the relief of having solved it the problem was still there when I opened it up again 20 minutes later.

Anyone know anything I can do? I can't click anywhere so I can only really type commands in the terminal thing. Really appreciate any assistance thank you.
