ethernet not working on new ChaletOS (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS [on hold]
Noob here. I am trying to install ChaletOS on an HP DC5700 desktop. I wish to have as close an experience to Win7 as possible as that is what we are used to. My ultimate goal is to get a linux install that our family can use. I tried a straight Ubuntu install, but it was difficult for me to administer, much less our family to use!
After installing, the wired connection isn’t working. It did work in the Ubuntu install, but that's been blown away now. I can't see lights (I'm not sure if there are any) on the back of the computer, but they are flashing on the router port.
I don’t know where to start, but I did run lshw because I saw someone in another post run it. After sifting through everything, I found that the Ethernet interface is NetXtreme BCM5755.
Outside of that, I have no idea what to do from here. And I have no other linux machine (only a win7), so any solution that involves downloading something is going to have to happen from that machine.
I appreciate any help you can give.

Possible off-topic question. ChaletOS is not Ubuntu, nor an official flavor of Ubuntu thus off-topic on this site (please refer to askubuntu.com/help/on-topic). I'd start by asking on an appropriate support site for your chosen OS which is not here, and not breach their rules. SE's Unix & Linux Q&A site may be appropriate. We support only Ubuntu and official flavors (Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu-MATE, Ubuntu-Budgie etc which can be seen via ubuntu.com/download/flavours)

I am asking because ChaletOS is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. And will accept Ubuntu commands in the Terminal window.

Ubuntu & official flavors are based on Debian - but debian is still off-topic. Read the on-topic link & you'll note it must be an official flavor, the second link I provided gave you choices of official flavors you can download, and use this site for. ChaletOS may have their own Q&A site or forum if you don't want to use SE's Unix & Linux Q&A site.

Your choice of OS should factor in the nature of support you're likely to receive. Doesn't Chalet OS offer support to its users?

This is frustrating. Any why I abandoned my last install of Ubuntu. I am very technically literate. And it shouldn't be this hard.
