ubuntu 16.04 NVIDIA C61 graphics problem

I am a beginner trying to use ubuntu 16.04 but keep having graphics problems. I have a NVIDIA C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] graphics card. My screen gets into a state that cannot be read. I've installed the NVIVIA graphics driver and I get this login loop that never lets me log in. I need help fixing this.
