Reported speech and subordinate clause
Can you please help me to understand the rule and the use of the subordinate clause in the sentences.
" he could go when he was two", he said.
What is the correct form to change the direct speech to the indirect speech?
He said he could go when he had been two or was two.
i was sleeping when Julie called, she said.
She said that she had been sleeping when Julie called. ➡is this correct?
And why don't we change subordinate clause when we use indirect speech??
