Mosque Street, Chinatown, Singapore
Mosque Street (Chinese: 摩士街; Malay: Lebuh Masjid) is a one-way street located in Chinatown within the Outram Planning Area in Singapore. The road links South Bridge Road to New Bridge Road.
Etymology and history
Mosque Street is named after the Jamae Mosque, referred to by Muslims as Masjid Jamae (Chulia), located on the South Bridge Road end of the street. The mosque was built in 1830 by the Chulia Muslims from the Coromandel Coast in India.
Mosque Street was the site of ten stables.
This street is known as kit ling bio pi in Hokkien, which means "beside the King's temple".
