What is the exact command you type in to rungrub-mkconfig
? Do not include any output from the command in your answer. Only the exact characters you type in before you press enter.

Could you please edit your post, when you want to add information? Especially file or program output listings (with the help of the{}
button in the editor toolbar) will be much more readable there; alternatively you can use a pastie service for longer listings and include the link of your pastie in your question. Overall it’s best to have everything relevant in one place. Additionally, comments may be deleted for various reasons. Thanks.

# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update

But that shouldnt make a difference since the lines are commented out. I had an update which updated grub that told me the grub files were different and I kept the one from the update and I no longer had the error you were getting. So i recommend you check fir any updates.
Please make sure you are showing the correct grub file output.

character in line 1 like the error messages suggests. What's the output ofsh -n /etc/default/grub
,head -n 1 /etc/default/grub
andgrep -nFe ')' /etc/default/grub
?– David Foerster

What is the exact command you type in to run
grub-mkconfig
? Do not include any output from the command in your answer. Only the exact characters you type in before you press enter.– Organic Marble

Could you please edit your post, when you want to add information? Especially file or program output listings (with the help of the
{}
button in the editor toolbar) will be much more readable there; alternatively you can use a pastie service for longer listings and include the link of your pastie in your question. Overall it’s best to have everything relevant in one place. Additionally, comments may be deleted for various reasons. Thanks.– David Foerster
