Unfinished boot sequence After Manually upgraded to Linux Kernel 4.18 on 18.10 Cosmic

0

I recently upgraded to 18.10 from 18.04 and the only thing missing back then was Linux 4.18 which AFAIK is installed by default with a clean install.

I am a developer and I needed to profile my app and need to run perf which should be installed in accordance with the kernel version and since my kernel is not 4.18, the suitable packages do not exist on Cosmic's package universe.

So to fix that, I tried to upgrade to 4.18 manually by running sudo apt-get install linux-header-4.18.0-15-generic && sudo apt-get install linux-image-4.18.0-15-generic and successfully installed it.

Now my problem is, when I let GRUB2 boot into Ubuntu as it highlights it, the boot gets stuck with the last message saying 'Hold until boot finishes up'. If I choose one of the options in advanced boot options for Ubuntu with kernel 4.18, it boots, butt Wi-Fi & Bluetooth drivers is not recognized and GNOME animations don't work either.

How can I overcome this?

Thank you. I can provide more info if needed.
