Battery drains very fast on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS

0

I am using kubuntu( Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS) with Predator Helios 300, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti, i7 8th gen. I am using this machine in dual boot mode with Windows 10. The battery depletion rate is very high on my system whenever i use Ubuntu(about 5% per minute). I tried using nvidia-driver-390 as well as driver from xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, but it has no impact on the battery life.

ubuntu-drivers devices

/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0 ==
modalias : pci:v000010DEd00001C8Csv00001025sd00001263bc03sc00i00
vendor : NVIDIA Corporation
model : GP107M [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile]
manual_install: True
driver : nvidia-driver-390 - distro non-free recommended
driver : xserver-xorg-video-nouveau - distro free builtin

I am really stuck here. Any help would be highly appreciated.

  • when using your laptop, keep a terminal open with powertop opened up and check to see what is using your battery. FWIW the helios 300 IIRC has terrible battery performance
