Nautilus opens HTML file in mail client dependent on HTML XMLNS tag

0

I have the following strange problem:

When I double-click a HTML file I'd like to see the file in the web browser (of course).

However sometimes Nautilus will open the E-Mail client (Thunderbird) and add the file I double-clicked as attachment instead of starting the web browser and showing the HTML file.

I found out that Nautilus obviously parses the xmlns= attribute in the <html> tag and starts the E-Mail client if the attribute is correct; it starts the web browser if the attribute is incorrect or missing:

  • If the tag in the HTML file is <html>, the file will be opened in the web browser.

  • If the tag in the HTML file is <html xmlns="http://this-site-does-not-exist.example/hello/world">, the file will be opened in the web browser.

  • If the tag in the HTML file is <html xmlns="this-is-invalid-syntax">, the file will be opened in the web browser.

  • If the tag in the HTML file is <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">, Nautilus will open the E-Mail client and add the HTML file as attachment.

I'd like Nautilus to open all HTML files without exception in the web browser.

How can I manage this?

Thanks.
