Can't get output to monitor via DVI-I to VGA adapter

I'm super new to Linux and Ubuntu having using Windows before. I have a triple monitor setup which works fine in Windows. All my monitors have VGA cables and my AMD R9 380X graphics card only supports DisplayPort/HDMI/DVI-I/DVI-D inputs so I've been using adapters; namely 1 DisplayPort-VGA adapter, 1 HDMI-VGA adapter and 1 DVI-I-VGA adapter. This works completely fine in Windows. However, when it comes to Ubuntu, The DVI-I-VGA adapter doesn't work. It gets recognised in Ubuntu when using the 'xrandr' command and it comes up in the Settings->Display menu too.
However, the monitor is just black. There's no message saying anything like "no VGA cable" or "no output" or anything floating on the screen; it's just black. Ubuntu is detecting it but it just doesn't output anything.
The VGA cable works fine because I plugged it into the DisplayPort adapter and there is output to the screen. The DVI-I-VGA adapter does work because it works in Windows and even works in the Grub bootloader, but once Ubuntu boots up, the monitor just goes black.
All monitors are 1920x1080 60Hz refresh rate. I am using the default AMD drivers that come with Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS.
I've done some mass Googling but I haven't been able to find anything that has helped. Does anyone know of anything I can do?
