TCP socket timeout
I'm using Ubuntu 18.04.2LTS. I make a HTTP request to the unavailable service, and it waits exactly 130s to timeout.
I searched a bit and if I understand correctly the only parameter controlling this timeout (from the system/Ubuntu/linux level, thus not accounting for any possible application defined HTTP timeout) is: tcp_syn_retries
(http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/bionic/man7/tcp.7.html).
If this is correct, what is the algorithm on how this setting defines the timeout? (As I found different resources online with different answers, if possible back up answer by some official Linux/Ubuntu documentation)
NOTE: tcp_syn_retries
was 6 by default on my PC, which is different default than written in the above document stating that the default is 5 giving the timeout of around 180 seconds.
