Parts of an app in Ubuntu 16.04 doesn't obey display scaling

I've set the display scaling to 2 and most apps scale accordingly. There's a particular software "COMSOL" that apparently scales, but there's a graphics window, which is for in-app visualization, that doesn't scale. But the scaling is not the only problem. The main issue is that as a result of the broken scaling, the mouse cursor has an annoying offset (roughly 600-700 pixels in both x and y directions). I wonder if there's a manual recipe that I can fix this. I'm fairly sure that the offset issue is an artifact of the broken scaling since when I set the display scaling (system-wide) back to 1.0, there's no offset. See the two images for more clarity. Btw, I have a 4K monitor, which is why I need 2x scaling. I also have an NVIDIA K2200 running on proprietary driver.
