Can't fix Nvidia errors after updating to 18.04
I upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04 Mate. When I try to do this: apt --fix-broken install. I get this:
error: mismatch on package
when removing 'diversion of /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1 by libnvidia-gl-390'
found 'diversion of /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1 to /usr/lib/x86_64- linux-gnu/libGL.so.1.distrib by nvidia-340'
dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/libnvidia-gl- 390_390.87- 0ubuntu0~gpu18.04.1_amd64.deb (--unpack):
new libnvidia-gl-390:amd64 package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/libnvidia-gl-390_390.87-0ubuntu0~gpu18.04.1_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
When I try to purge any with nvidia I get a similar error. So needless to say I can't download any updates. What can I try. PS I hate Nvidia with a passion.

How have you installed the Nvidia drivers in the first place, before the release upgrade? Apparently not as you should in a Ubuntu system. I'm afraid that now you'll have to reinstall them using the same method and then remove/purge and install other version.

Yep had them installed, upgraded then nada, so I installed nvidia-driver-390. Booted up checked for update it said it wanted to install both nvidia libs. I finally got it to remove used this:
