How to make Canon TS8150/51/52 print CDs?
I bought this printer because there was a Linux driver supplied by Canon. However it does not support printing CDs or DVDs. That functionality is provided by the Windows driver, and works well, albeit having a very large driver. I am somewhat aggrieved that Canon did not say that CD printing was not available in Linux. I tried a proprietary printer driver system (Turboprint, I think) and that did not do it either. No warning given, at least it was only the free trial.
I have looked through the GPL source and there is no mention of CDs, the nearest thing being a 5 inch square, which I suppose could be used, with a CD sized circle drawn on the template in whatever design tool I was using. But, the problem would then be to send the command to actually put the printer into CD printing mode.
Do I have to find a way of reverse engineering the Windows driver, e.g. by monitoring the WiFi traffic (which I think would be very laborious) or is there some better way of making it work?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!
