scsi device delete hangs in ubuntu

i am performing disk delete on ubuntu using command below: echo 1 | sudo tee -a /sys/class/scsi_device/sd*/device/delete



sometimes it passes, sometimes it hangs at this step



Can someone point,what's going wrong
