Second monitor Ubuntu 18.04

So I just put Linux on an Asus laptop with a GTX 1050 graphics card, and I want to add another monitor. I have one using the HDMI port, and the other I'm trying to get to work via USB adapter. I have both usbc to HDMI and usb3 to HDMI adapters.

I know the usb3 to HDMI adapter works because I can hook up an old laptop with not nearly as good graphics to it using a USB port and get two monitor display I want.

I don't need for the second monitor to be different from what's displayed on the laptop screen, duplicating the built in display on one of the external ones is fine, I just want to be able to have two monitors connected with displays because they're larger than the laptop display.

I've tried a ton of different solutions with Nvidia driver and display port driver solutions for people with similar problems, but I can't get any of them to work for me.

I'll post whatever terminal stuff I need to, just ask, since I'm not sure where to start/what info to give at this point that would be useful.
