Ubuntu PhpMyAdmin not able to find mysql password

0

I am trying to setup a website with database and I executed the following to install phpmyadmin. (already a root user)

apt-get install phpmyadmin

installation finished successfully.

When I tried logging in from /phpmyadmin
I got the following error(s):

mysqli_real_connect(): (HY000/1698): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'

I tried logging in from terminal using mysql -u root -p root and that worked.

What can be done in order to overcome this issue?

This is not a duplicate of "forgotten phpmyadmin password" because the password works on serverside, mysql.

    Mysql uses socket authentication by default on Ubuntu. Thus there's no root password set. Follow the instructions in this answer and set a root password, or create a new user with proper privileges.

    Mysql uses socket authentication by default on Ubuntu. Thus there's no root password set. Follow the instructions in this answer and set a root password, or create a new user with proper privileges.
