Crontab doesn't work

0

I will tell every 5 min a start.sh with the code:

screen nodejs app.js

in my crontab -e i write this:

*/5 * * * * /bin/sh /home/my/folder/to/start.sh

my start.sh hase 777 and my app.js hase 777
The start.sh and the app.js is in the same folder.

After crontab -e i make a service cron reload

  • Are you expecting the cron to start every 5mins or is that a mistake, also try this command for i in $(seq 1 3);do screen top;done and you will see that only one instance of the screen program is started! So I think the way you running screen might be the issue!

  • Are you expecting for the new screen to run as a background process? or do you expect to open a terminal window?

    Either case, the best way to debug a cron job (my opinion) is to output everything to a log file like this */5 * * * * /bin/sh /home/my/folder/to/start.sh >> /home/my/folder/to/start.sh.log 2>&1.
