Desktop: disable a discreet graphics AMD card

0

Although there are solutions for laptops with switchable graphics cards, I haven't found anything that would address a regular desktop.

In my setup (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) I have a dedicated AMD graphics card (amdgpu) and integrated Intel graphics controller (i915). When I run Ubuntu, I would like to use only the Intel device. Selecting in the Gnome screen settings only the one connected to the Intel device, Gnome slows down significantly. It doesn't happen when I switch to a screen connected to the AMD device. Of course, when no screen is connected to the AMD card (unplugged HDMI port), everything works smoothly.

Thus, how to disable completely the discreet AMD card (excluding BIOS option)?

I tried to simply blacklist amdgpu, but the AMD card is still served by some default driver in low resolution.
