  • What can I do if a repository/PPA I added does not have a Release file?

    4 answers

  • apt get update missing release file [duplicate]

    1 answer

E: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/unstable/ubuntu bionic Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

This question has been asked before and already has an answer. If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question.

  • That PPA doesn't support 'bionic' (18.04). If you don't like reading the documentation for the PPA, you can open the link in your error message with a browser, go to the 'dists' folder & check to see if there is a release folder that matches your Ubuntu system release name - eg. ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/unstable/ubuntu/dists shows jaunty-zesty were supported, no artful (17.10), no bionic (18.04), no cosmic (18.10) .. Though still better to check before adding any PPA to your system.
