What's the most performative, secure, and solid free host network intrusion detection and prevention system?...
What I'm looking for is an AIO package that is easy to install and configure, and both detects threats and intrusions, and prevents them from getting beyond the host machine to the subnet.
To sum this up, I have a PC acting as a combo-router/server with numerous services including DNS. (all WIP atm)
I'm kinda just getting into this field and have dealt with enough poorly written software that I don't know what to choose for this.
I've looked into snort, but that doesn't seem to be so much of an IPS like I need.
Actually, the only stuff I can really find for Ubuntu is really just IDSs which just warns about intrusions and doesn't Prevent them.
I really need something that I can just setup and forget, because I've got more important projects to do, and can't waste my time building support for a program that should be distributed with it.
So I'm looking for professional grade free software (not suites), if there is any, that I don't have to do too much configuration on.
Are there any security experts who would be willing to share their recommendations with me??
Security is important, and information like this shouldn't be so hard to figure out.
Thanks

I can't afford such, kinda need it for myself, yes I am looking for free info, cause that's what I'd give if the roles were reversed. if security is important, it shouldn't be restricted.
