How do I remove or disable mdadm and other useless processes on Ubuntu Server?

-1

I do not use mdadm or any RAID arrays (software or hardware) on my system.

  1. Why does mdadm run on my fresh Ubuntu Server installation?

  2. Apt says that if I delete mdadm, ubuntu-server package will be deleted as well. How do I go about removing or disabling it?

  • The question should be then, what do you define as useless applications? What may be useless to you may not be useless to another user. Canonical builds these packages based on input from users and what is needed. This sounds like more of a feature request than something that we can give you. See: askubuntu.com/questions/28440/where-can-i-send-feature-requests or see help.ubuntu.com/community/…

  • @Terrance I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to having the package installed, but I do mind it running when it's not being used for anything whatsoever.

  • Try running sudo dpkg-reconfigure mdadm
