symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found
So I bought a dual boot lubuntu and windows 8.0 pc from my local pc shop ~9 months ago and went to upgrade it to lubuntu 14.04 today.
Now I have had no boot cd supplied with my installation by the shop. And furthermore those solutions seem to infer the presence of a second Ubuntu installation with a broken copy of grub (which as my PC is pretty much new - 9 months as I said earlier - and to my knowledge has only had this copy of lubuntu) on isn't the case.
So I was wondering if anyone knew of any solutions without having a linux boot CD present and knew why I'd be experiencing this if I don't have an older copy of a broken Grub installed on my PC?

To answer your second question, I suspect you are hitting https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1289977 which, IIUC, is currently the #1 boot issue with 14.04.
That bug contains many suggested solutions, though my guess is that you have an EFI system which means that any suggestions related to grub-pc won't work (more likely you should look for grub-efi-amd64). You will likely need an Ubuntu 14.04 disc to fix. In my case, I was able to fix by cleaning-out non-Ubuntu files from my EFI partition.

The basic reason for this bug is that Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 ship with a buggy version of Grub (2.02beta2). In order to get things working, you need to downgrade your grub to the version that is in 13.10, and then re-install everything, possibly running boot-repair again.

That bug contains many suggested solutions, though my guess is that you have an EFI system which means that any suggestions related to grub-pc won't work (more likely you should look for grub-efi-amd64). You will likely need an Ubuntu 14.04 disc to fix. In my case, I was able to fix by cleaning-out non-Ubuntu files from my EFI partition.
