Cannot get surround sound to work via HDMI on Ubuntu 18.04

0

I've been struggling to get Ubuntu to play 5.1 sound on my home theater system. I know for certain that neither the HDMI cable nor the TV nor the speakers are the problem, because if I plug my windows machine into the same cable it plays just fine.

Ubuntu is showing HDMI 5.1 option in the settings just fine:

However when I test the speakers only left and right channels play the test sound, others are silent. It's the same with my videos and games. Stereo however works as expected.

I've been at it for a while now, however I'm unable to get it to work and it's starting to get frustrating.

Here is the result of my alsa-info: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=f3bfd7dab28886999e9723beae903578e4d372f4

I'd really appreciate any help in solving this issue.

Best regards.
