  • To be honest I can't remember the name of the extension, it had something to do with the backlight in the display, maybe something to do with led? I'm really new to Ubuntu or as far as that goes any Linux OS.

  • Are you able to boot into Recovery Mode? Are you able to boot the computer, and then use the brightness function keys to increase the brightness? Do you have a bootable Ubuntu Live DVD/USB?

  • I found the extension it's called OLED dimmer and apparently some other folks have encountered the same thing as I did. As far as being able to boot into recovery mode, yes I believe I have done that but the screen is still black, except for the curser.

  • Are you able to type at the cursor? Try the ls command. Please answer my other questions. What version Ubuntu?

  • It's version 18.10

Boot to a Ubuntu Live DVD/USB.

Open a Files window.

Type control-h to show all hidden files/folders.

Single-click on your hard disk icon in the left pane, to mount the drive.

Navigate to your home folder on the hard disk.

Delete the folder at this path...

~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/oled_dimmer@flomerz.gmail.com

Reboot the computer.
