Windows dual boot on Ubuntu machine eventually breaks keyboard [closed]
I've purchased a laptop from Entroware running Ubuntu 18.04, and installed windows 10 alongside it. Everything works fine.
However, eventually the keyboard seems to get damaged somehow, and begins not working and erratically ignoring keystrokes.
The company doesn't support windows, and so will no longer be replacing the keyboard (which has provided a temporary fix several times). USB and bluetooth keyboards do not suffer the issue.
Basically: Why does this happen? And is there a solution?

can you elaborate on this? you say "damaged" which implies physical damage but that would be extremely unlikely if not impossible to be caused by any OS. Does the keyboard stop working in Ubuntu and Windows? have you looked at updating or reinstalling the keyboard drivers ( it won't help if it is damaged)?

I've not been able to test the keyboards once the erratic behaviour starts with a different laptop, so I can't confirm any physical damage. The connectors seem fine, so you're right, it should be a software issue. The keyboard suffers from the erratic behaviour in both Ubuntu and Windows.

It is possible that windows is defaulting to it's basic backup drivers, because the manufacturer isn't providing them with the proper drivers. If you don't mind, in windows go to device manager > select keyboards > right click you keyboard > select properties > driver > driver details. I think that it will tell you if it is a Microsoft basic driver or something else. Please screenshot the results showing both the properties and driver window.
Will do! The issue happens in both ubuntu and windows though

then it might be a physical issue with the keyboard, in which case you should get a new one :( but you said previous replacements have only temporarily fixed the problem?

Two keyboards appear in windows, HID keyboard, and Standad PS/2 Keyboard, though there's only one

hmm, does you computer have a PS2 port?

No, the keyboard attaches to the CPU with ribbon cable
