Ubuntu Won't Acknowledge My .ISO Files while Creating A Bootable USB

0

So what have I possibly done wrong...?

So I'm not exactly new to creating bootable USB's on Linux, but this one has me thoroughly stumped.

I'm trying to generate a new Debian 9.8.0 Cinnamon (64 Bit) bootable USB to install it on my laptop. To do this, I am using the in-built Startup Disc Creator in Ubuntu. When I open the application, it immediately recognizes my USB drive, but not the .ISO file, which is located in Downloads. So my next option is to use the "Other" button to manually point it to the .ISO. I do this, selecting the file in Downloads and telling it to open. It does... nothing. it completely refuses to acknowledge the .ISO despite being pointed directly to it. What gives!? I tried again a handful of times, going so far as to restart the program, move the file a couple of times, and then to reboot my computer, but still, nothing.

What's going on here? Have I missed something small and stupid? Any help would be appreciated.

The computer is running Ubuntu 18.10
