“Unauthorized” error when adding printers through CUPS using Google Chrome in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS [closed]
I have Ubuntu 18.04 LTS installed clean on this system. When I try to add a printer through CUPS address of http://localhost:631 in the Chrome browser, I can't add the printer as I keep getting Unauthorized. It never asks for a login. How do I add my printer through CUPS using Google Chrome?
BTW, Firefox works fine for adding a printer in CUPS.

EDIT: Ended up filing a bug report on this one as there are still areas that fail using the method below. It simply does not keep the login information from tab to tab during setup or configuration. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1769893
TL;DR Go to http://localhost:631/admin/login to allow for inputting of your username and password to access CUPS settings.
To add your printer through Chrome perform the following steps:
First, go to your CUPS Administration page by clicking on the tab in your browser from http://localhost:631
Click on the Add Printer button. You should get the Unauthorized:
Add
loginto the end of the address in the address bar and then press enter:
Input your username and password:
Go back to Add Printer and choose your printer and continue your installation from here:
Your printer should be added now:
