Don't need grub menu

0

I have Ubuntu on my E: drive 2TB, and Windows 10 on my C: drive... I installed Ubuntu on E: a few years ago and all was well, but since upgrading to Eager Beaver, Grub was added to my C: drive. Now when powering up, if I'm not paying attention I will load Ubuntu when windows is what I need. Before, I could just change boot order, I like that better. Can I remove just the Grub menu? Thank you!

I assume that you mean Bionic Beaver...

This fix will allow GRUB to remember the last OS that you booted from.

sudo -H gedit /etc/default/grub # edit the GRUB config file

Add or edit the following two lines near the top of the file...

GRUB_DEFAULT=saved # probably just an edit to existing line
GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true # probably have to add this line

Then...

sudo update-grub # update the boot files

reboot # and select the desired OS, and it'll remember for next boot

Install the package grub-customizer. It gives you options, such as choosing a default boot selection (OS) and telling it not to show the actual Grub interface menu unless you hold the shift key on boot.
