  • How do I make an application manually extracted from a .tar be available on “Show Applications”?

  • How can I create launchers on my desktop?

  • How to add programs to the Unity Launcher or Ubuntu Dock?

I am a bit rusty in Ubuntu and with Netbeans as I am normally a Manjaro user and the Arch repositories does everything for you with Apache Netbeans 10.

But now that I am back on Ubuntu I have installed Netbeans in 18.04 and it is fully working, but as I had to extract the Binaries, the application just sits in my Home folder and i need to run ./netbeans from the terminal to get it to run each time.

How can I now get Netbeans to appear as a normal program in the Gnome Application screen? or the Dock?

You need to create a launcher for it and point said launcher to ./netbeans. Also it's worth mentioning that the Arch repositories don't do anyting for you, they just hold packages. pacman is what does everything for you
