Ubuntu 18.10 , virtualbox

0

I just installed ubuntu 18.10 on my self-assembled computer. It's an intel i7 Ivy Bridge cpu, on an intel itx motherboard with no graphics card, but a Intel Duel ethernet card instead. I wanted to use virtual box but to do that, I had to install the latest Linux kernel (4.20.6-042006-generic, from kernel 18 that came with Ubuntu) and it's headers to get virtual box to work without complaint.

I succeeded in getting virtual box to work without any errors and tested it to be sure and it works good.. A ok! But when I reboot the system, it's able to make it to the purple screen with the ubuntu letters, and it gets stuck.. takes about 20 minutes to load up completely.

So when I try to make it to the grub screen to try to get grub to repair the system;, by pressing "shift" to get to the grub screen, it actually boots up immediately without the 20 minute wait, but doesn't make it to the grub screen.

Anyone know what to do about this?
