Ubuntu and Canon MG5200 Scanner Application Choice Help

0

My 74 year old father is running a Asus Laptop which I've installed Ubuntu Studio 18.04 with a Canon Printer/Scanner MG5200 connected via Wifi. I've tried 3 different applications for scanning without success. Printing works flawlessly. Scanner results are as follows:

1) ScanGearMP- Installed via added PPA. Scans preview fine. When given a filename for a full scan it crashes after the full scan and saves the file as an empty text file. I deleted ScanGearMP before proceeding below.

2) Xsane- Installed from Synaptic. Detects the scanner upon starting. When either preview or final scan it looks like it's trying to scan but just sits there. No motion from the scanner.

3) Simple Scan- Installed by default. Preview starts to scan the image but fails on a communication error.

I don't have hours to devote to this. Any recommendations which of the above to dig into further? Thanks.
