Cannot start MySQL client w/ root anymore

0

I am running Ubuntu 18.04 and have a staging web development environment on there (MySQL, PHP). Today all of a sudden some of my users in the mysql.user table seem to have stopped working.

I can no longer open mysql with sudo mysql -h 127.0.0.1 -u
and all (except one) of the users that I use to open dbs in the web applications do not work anymore either. The only one that still works is one I added yesterday when I apparently I broke something (although it only seems the users stopped working today).

How can I get these users to work again and most importantly how can I open mysql again with my root user?

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
