Ubuntu server 18.04 install stops at network name resolution
Update, Solved...
Downloaded the 18.04 lts iso, and tried to boot it to install and it won't make it past the 2 lines that say...
Starting wait for network to be configured...
Starting network name resolution...
14.10 had no issues... but the forums wouldn't let me ask questions due to eol vs lts... lol
The router is on dhcp, ip addresses are reserved, (with mac addresses) and cable plugged in and lights blinking.. just no joy.
Tried booting with network cable disconnected, and install booted fine, but no configuration for the nics. Once into the first gui install screen, I connected the network cable. I manually entered the ip info in the installation screens, and the install stopped at installing kernel. Left it there for an hour, and just powered it off, conceding defeat.
Rebooted again, leaving the cable connected. Boot went into the install, refused to see the net connection. I just hit continue, ignored the ip config, and install continued (I was watching the detailed log and saw it did in fact have success finding the ethernet config). One odd thing I also noted is for every file the install tried to load, it insisted on trying to download it from the Internet before finally getting them from the installation dvd. (This is prolonged the install process quite a lot) but.. after about a half hour it did finish, and successfully rebooted, and saw the assigned ip on the ethernet connection.
