Security issue or display quirk? Wifi network settings suddenly changed. After reconnect, shows correct...

I connect to the same wifi network at home daily. It is secured with WPA2 and uses particular DNS servers and other settings that I have entered into the IPv4 options of the wifi manager in Ubuntu 18.04. When I clicked into my wifi settings for this ssid today while I was connected, it showed different settings. The "security" field said "WEP 40/128-bit Key (Hex or ASCII)" and it appeared to have the default (empty) settings for DNS and for other options like connecting automatically, etc. The network ssid was the same, though. I was in a hurry and didn't verify further details at the time. When I clicked "Turn Off" to disable the wifi and then re-enabled the wifi and reconnected, the settings were correct again. I'm at a loss to explain this. Hoping someone has a pointer as to whether or not Ubuntu's graphical wifi manager has a buggy history of sometimes displaying incorrect information (perhaps during certain system events or similar) or if I should treat this as a security issue. I assume Ubuntu's wifi configuration (in which I specify WPA2 and other settings) would not connect to a malicious AP with the same ssid using WEP-based authentication, but I don't know enough about wifi security to say this for certain.
