Ubuntu update from 16.04 to 18.04

1

I'm trying to update my Ubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04 but I keep getting an error. I have been struggling with this and have still not found a fix. Any ideas on what to do?

There is no error being displayed so I am at a loss on how to proceed.

Command: sudo do-release-upgrade

Update:

As suggested in the comments, I have tried the same command from the console. But I still get the same result. I did the following:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo do-release-upgrade

Do you have enough disk space? Memory? Logout, then try from the console only (e.g. Control-Alt-F3)

  • I initially did not have enough disk space. Then I cleared some memory and tried again. I have approximately 40 GB empty now, and I think that is more than enough. I’ll try from the console and let you know.

  • I also added the current LINUX images I have on my system. I think that is what is causing the problem. Do you agree?

  • I cleaned my disk finally! I've tried sudo apt autoremove but it just says 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. so I guess nothing is happening. Any other ideas?
