How do I restore the default repositories?

I'm running VirtualBox (Version 5.2.22 r126460)with Ubuntu 16.04 on my Mac (Mojave if that's of interest) and I'm trying to install the libdw-dev
package.
However, when trying to install the package with sudo apt-get install libdw-dev
I get the following complaint:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libdw-dev : Depends: libelf-dev but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libdw1 (= 0.165-3ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
When I try to install libelf-dev
and libdw1
I get prompted that libelf1 (= 0.165-3ubuntu1) but 0.165-3ubuntu1.1 is to be installed
. However, I successfully installed libelf1
and I can see with apt-cache policy libelf1
that it is in fact the correct version:
libelf1:
Installed: 0.165-3ubuntu1.1
Candidate: 0.165-3ubuntu1.1
Version table:
*** 0.165-3ubuntu1.1 100
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
0.165-3ubuntu1 500
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
I don't really know what else I can try and feel like this has to do with the VirtualBox as I have never had this problem outside the virtual machine. Any ideas appreciated.
