I have been using this installation for several years now. Sometime in the last few days, something has stopped Startup Applications from running. The applet runs fine but the entries in it are not being run.

This is just with one user account. I have another account in the same installation where everything runs fine.

To see if there was something in the home folder that was preventing the commands from being run, I deleted many of the suspect files and directories starting with dot (.) including .cache, .gnome and .config. They were all recreated but the startup applications are still not running.

There is something outside the HOME folder which is causing the problem. I ran gnome-session manually and it runs all right wit all startup applications being started fine.

This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:

  • "This question is specific to an end of life Ubuntu release. These are no longer supported and are therefore off-topic here. To upgrade, see: How to install software or upgrade from old unsupported release?" – karel, Zanna, muru, Chai T. Rex, pomsky

If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question.

  • Sorry, none of us have Ubuntu 10.10 to diagnose a problem with. Please upgrade to 18.04, which will receive support until April 2023.
