∙ I have known that (3) is the formal form of (2), but wonder what it would be if I didn't use "in", like (1).

∙ Can I say that (1),(2), and (3) are the same in terms of the meaning? or Are they slightly different each other?

∙ Is "in which" used in (3) because of "studied"?
